Factory Model Code Decoder

Every car in the archive carries a factory model code — the option string Nissan recorded alongside the chassis number. Enter a chassis number to pull up its real code, or start from a code directly. Each character is explained using the 770,089 records themselves, not a guess.

1 Start from a chassis number

The number stamped on the firewall plate, e.g. BNR34-000051.

2 Or pick a code that exists

The most common real codes for each chassis, with how many cars carry them.

Character key

What each letter means at each position, worked out from the records themselves. A meaning is only listed when it holds for at least 90% of the cars carrying that character and beats the generation's own base rate by 25 points, on 25 cars or more. Each generation is keyed separately — they do not share a layout.

Skyline Authenticity & Identification Guide

Spotting genuine models, verifying firewall stamped chassis numbers, and identifying fake GT-R conversions from ER34 GT-T or ECR33 donors.

01
Blue Model Identification Plate

Located on the passenger side firewall. The plate is made of blue anodized stamped aluminum attached with two round factory blind rivets. Ensure the font is embossed from behind, with no signs of rivet tampering or laser etching.

02
Firewall Stamped Chassis Number

Directly stamped into the metal firewall above the brake booster (e.g. BNR34-001234 or ER34-024890). Factory stamps feature distinct serif font styles and uniform stamping depth with undisturbed factory paint.

03
Spotting GT-T to GT-R Conversions

Key indicators: Genuine GT-Rs feature factory widened rear steel quarters (no body filler seams), wide aluminum front fenders with GT-R badges, 4WD front driveshaft tunnel clearance, factory ATTESA pump in the trunk, and genuine MFD wiring loom.

04
Engine Block Casting Numbers

Standard RB26DETT features casting mark 05U on the intake side. N1 homologation and Nür models feature the reinforced thick-wall 24U casting. RB25DET NEO features NEO stamped on the cam covers and high-compression solid lifters.
